Apple is in the process of transitioning their line of macOS computers to a new ARM-based hardware architecture. The first Macs powered by the Apple M1 chipset were released on November 17, 2020.

Artists and animation professionals should be aware that major hardware architecture changes introduce compatibility issues, particularly with complex graphics and video production software. Toon Boom is in the process of developing new versions of Storyboard Pro and Harmony which will be compatible with Apple’s new chipsets. Ensuring optimal stability and performance on this new platform requires ongoing work from our development team, and we currently expect to have software compatible with the new system architecture available in the new year.

At this time, we recommend that our customers delay purchases of computers powered by the Apple M1 chipset until we have announced compatible versions of Harmony and Storyboard Pro. Our clients can rely on us to share progress as we move forward in developing software for Apple’s new chipsets.

If you already have a Mac powered by the Apple M1 chipset and would like to apply to join our beta program, please contact marketing@toonboom.com.
